VUE and RealD turn Cosplayers into 3D avatars at London Comic Con

Every May and October, a vast majority of the 100K visitors to London Comic Con dress up in their favourite comic, game or sci-fi film character. Some Cosplayers do this for living and have a selection of stunning costumes that they slip in and out of. It’s a great festival atmosphere where people who might otherwise be wearing a black suit and tie every weekday, decide to put on their Stormtrooper body armour or turn into Poison Ivy or a giant Foxy for the three day event.

In 2015, Experience12 decided to offer 3D body scanning to their clients VUE Cinemas and RealD so that cosplayers at the event could capture their stunning costumes in 3D. 3Dify provided the technology and Developing Dreams helped out with the body scanning action and social media buzz around the experience.

For the first time at London Comic Con, punters were able to get a 3D image of themselves online, which proved extremely popular. Most people were so keen and excited about this novel 3D capture booth, that they were prepared to wait for an hour on average to have a go at it. More than 300 people ended up online with an interactive 3D image of themselves.

Many shared their 3D selves via social media, resulting in more than 1M impressions on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. Here are some of the scanning action highlights in a photo gallery.
