Developing Dreams team members have been part of the Brighton Maker Faire organising team running the marketing, PR and social media campaigns, and recruiting speakers for debates and talks.
We hope that you have had as much of a blast at Brighton Mini Maker Faire as we have had over the past few years and hold those fingers crossed that it will happen again. There are other Maker Faires or similar events which happen around the country to help you cope with withdrawal effects from the Brighton faire not happening, many of which you can find here, or even start your own.
When Pegasus PR approached me to do a presentation for their Inspiring Healthy Futures event, I thought that it would be great a opportunity to talk about 3D body scanning and 360 time freeze photography and how we have been fusing this emerging technology with art to grab people’s attention. The only tricky bit was the actual theme of the event ‘inspiring healthy futures’, because what we had been creating was more to do with fun and novel event experiences rather than inspiring people to live healthy. Luckily, there are a number of applications for this technology within the health and fitness industry as well as other sectors.

Every May and October, a vast majority of the 100K visitors to London Comic Con dress up in their favourite comic, game or sci-fi film character. Some Cosplayers do this for living and have a selection of stunning costumes that they slip in and out of. It’s a great festival atmosphere where people who might otherwise be wearing a black suit and tie every weekday, decide to put on their Stormtrooper body armour or turn into Poison Ivy or a giant Foxy for the three day event. During your crystal ball gazing exercises you may or may not have come across the Gartner’s Hype Cycle of Emerging Technologies. Keeping an eye on Gartner’s yearly report can be useful and interesting as it shows what stage of development emerging technologies are at – from conception to maturity and mass adoption. It has been used since 1995 to show the common pattern of “overenthusiasm, disillusionment and eventual realism” that comes with each invention and new technologies. It is often used by companies as a guide for when new technologies should be adopted for maximum impact and value. Continue reading
